Sabunchu District Executive Authority held an event on "Negative effects of early marriage and consanguineous marriages" to implement the Cabinet of Ministers’ Awareness Rules on “The Negative Effects of Early and Consanguineous Marriages to Maintain and Strengthen the Importance of Family and Marriage among Young People”. the representatives of a number of institutions, teachers, and students of educational institutions took part in the event organized at the Sabunchu Youth House.
Ms. Tarverdiyeva, head of the Protection of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Unit at the Ombudsman Office, participated in the event. In her speech, she gave information about the activities of the Ombudsman in the protection and promotion of children's rights.
Ms. Tarverdiyeva said that on the eve of the 33rd anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Ombudsman announced "Children's Rights Month" throughout the country from October 20 to November 20, to further increase focus on children, as well as to ensure and more effectively protect the children's rights.
It was pointed out that during this month-long campaign, to strengthen the educational work on children's rights, the Ombudsman Institution holds trainings on a number of topics, including training on the strengthening preventive measures against early marriage. During those trainings the issues related to the prevention of girl children's truancy from education, as well as the elimination of domestic violence, and maternal and infant mortality, were also discussed.
