Head of the Ombudsman Office delivered a speech at the training for NGOs

Legal Analysis and Research Public Union organized training for NGOs on the topic of "International practices on the right of return and the relevant role of civil society" bringing together the representatives of state bodies and civil society organizations (CSOs) within the framework of Shusha Year.

The Head of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Aydin Safikhanli delivered a speech at this training and spoke about the violated fundamental rights of Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs. After touching upon the necessity of ensuring the safe and dignified return of former IDPs to their homes, he stressed that currently, the mine problem in the liberated lands is a serious hindrance to this process.

The speech also shed a light on the world practice related to the mechanisms applied in the post-conflict period. Mr. Safikhanli noted that civil society organizations can also take an active part in ensuring the rights of return and bringing these details to the attention of the world community.

Mr. Safikhanli briefed the participants about the Azerbaijani Ombudsman's extensive activities to inform the international community about different human rights violations committed by Armenia. It was pointed out that during the Patriotic War and afterward the Ombudsman addressed the domestic and international audience, in total, 15 reports, 23 statements, 25 appeals (including 7 video messages), nearly 200 press releases, and 3 video clips. At the same time, he recommended that NGOs also use these documents while preparing special reports.
