The next roundtable on the topic “Ensuring the Citizens’ Right to Suffrage” in relation to the early presidential elections was held in joint collaboration between the Office of the Commisioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Central Election Commission (CEC) in Ganja city.
Opening the event, the Chief of the Ombudsman Office, Aydin Safikhanli, spoke about the importance of observation institutions, and the role of the Ombudsman and the Office in this process. He noted that the purpose of the awareness-raising events organized in the capital and regions by the Ombudsman Office jointly with the CEC is specifically for election preparedness, and is also aimed at providing more clear explanations of electoral rights and procedures.
A. Safikhanli also said some staff members of the Ombudsman Institution will observe the elections.
Later, CEC member Huseyn Pashayev provided information on the CEC activities on the eve of the upcoming early presidential elections and noted that awareness-raising events are ongoing.
Afterward, the questions of the participants were answered, and discussions on the topic were held.
It should be noted that the first similar joint awareness-raising event related to the upcoming early presidential elections by the Ombudsman Office and the CEC was organized in Baku with the participation of the Ombudsman, the Chairman of the CEC, and representatives of constituency election commissions.
