The next meeting of the Association of the Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions of the Turkic States (TURKOMB) was held with the support of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Institution.
In her opening speech, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, conveyed her greetings to the heads and representatives from the ombudspersons and national human rights institutions (NHRIs) of Azerbaijan, Turkiye, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, who joined this online meeting.
Then, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman stressed the importance of both documents, the Memorandum of Understanding, concluded between the ombuds and NHRIs of the Turkic States in Bursa/ Turkiye in May 2022, and the Baku Declaration of the Ombudsmen of Turkic States signed also in May as a final document of an international conference held in Baku on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan, in further strengthening the unity and cooperation among the participating to those documents institutions.
During the meeting, a special accent was placed on the organization of awareness-raising events and study tours among the Member States to the Association with a view to promoting the exchange of experiences in the effective protection of human rights. Also, the activity of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan in this field was brought to the attention.
During the discussions, Ms. Aliyeva made a number of recommendations for strengthening the work of the Association. At this meeting, it was also highlighted the initiative of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan in the development of the activity plan of the Association, as well as its role in other organizational issues.
In the final, the participants discussed the issues on the agenda.
