The Ministries of Interior, Social Services Agency under the Labor and Social Protection of Population, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Azerbaijan Representative, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) held a round table on the theme “Combatting Trafficking in Persons: activities and perspectives”.
Ms. Turan Jahangirova, an Ombudsman’s representative did a presentation on “Activity of the Ombudsman in preventing human trafficking”. She said that the Ombudsman focuses on the situation of undocumented migrants, victims of gender-based violence, children from broken families, and other population groups at risk of modern-day slavery. Furthermore, the participants were informed about the Azerbaijani Ombudsman’s good practice in the safe return of migrant children and the elderly to their country of origin and the replacement in shelters and rehabilitation facilities.
In addition, costless medical, psychological and legal aid campaigns intended for vulnerable population groups are being continued at the Ombudsman’s initiative and support.
