Ombudsman spoke at the public debate on the settlement of labor disputes during mediation processes

The Ombudsman Institution, Ministry of Justice, and the Mediation Council jointly held a public debate on the “Role of State Bodies and Employers in Successful Settlement of Labor Disputes in Mediation Processes”.

During the event, which brought together representatives from over 40 state bodies, mediation bodies, and civil society organizations (CSOs), the Ombudsperson Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, Mr. Anar Aliyev, Deputy to the Minister of Protection of Labor and Social Protection of Population, Ms. Aynur Sabitova, Chairwoman of the Department for Human Rights and Public Relations in the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Nadir Adilov, Chair of the Mediation Council and Mr. Guido Ambrosso, UNHCR Country Representative made speeches.  

Speaking at the public debate opening ceremony, the Ombudsperson outlined the activity of the ombuds institution in the protection of labor rights, as well as relations, and joint projects, run with the state agencies, CSOs, and international institutions in the concerned area. In addition, the Ombudsperson pointed out the main problems indicated in complaints received by her and the measures taken to overcome them. It was also provided information on the main activity directions in the field of business and human rights. Furthermore, the Ombudsperson put forward a number of recommendations and suggestions for the improvement of the national legislation to more effectively protect labor rights.    

Outlining the close cooperation built between the Ombudsman Institution and the Mediation Council, Ms. Aliyeva also touched upon the importance of mediation in terms of balancing the interests of both, employees and employers during the settlement of labor disputes.     

Later, discussions on the effectiveness of mechanisms of pre-trial settlement of disputes, roles of various stakeholders such as state bodies, mediation bodies, and employers in this process, existing impediments and ways to overcome them, as well as prospects were held.       

Questions raised by the participants were answered.
