A conference dedicated to the results of the Project on “Organization of the Engagement of Men in Antenatal and early Child Care Services” implemented within the Program on “For Gender Equality: Against Gender Stereotypes and Gender-Based Violence”, funded by EU and UNFPA was held with the participation of the representatives of relevant stakeholders.
The Project was implemented in the framework of the cooperation “Hopeful Future” Social Initiatives Public Union, Public Health and Reforms Center, Azerbaijan State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors named after A. Aliyev, and Azerbaijan Medical University. The aim of this project was to encourage and raise awareness of fathers by family doctors specializing in maternal and infant health, pediatricians, and gynecologists to participate during pregnancy, childbirth, and child-care processes, along with mothers. Thus, within the project, the work done, the issues related to sustainability of the outcomes, and identifying future task tracking were discussed.
The Ombudsman’s representative who participated in this conference, Ms. Ayten Tarverdiyeva delivered a speech about the Ombudsman’s institute’s activity in gender equality and human rights advocacy work carried out during month-long campaigns such as “Human Rights Month”, “Peace Month”, “Child Rights Month” and international campaign “16 Day Activism against Gender-Based Violence” across the country. She said that this advocacy work facilitates raising awareness of a broad audience of various population groups, and the development of gender thinking and gender culture in society.
Furthermore, it was said that the recommendation to speed up the adoption of the laws on the reproductive health of people and family planning was included in the list of recommendations in the Ombudsman’s Annual Report.
