Representative of the Ombudsperson spoke at the awareness-raising event on combatting drug abuse

An awareness-raising event dedicated to the 26^th of June- International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held in cooperation with the Youth Anti-Drug Public Union.

The event was attended by the parliamentarians of the Azerbaijani National Assembly (Milli Mejlis), the representatives from the Main Department on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, The State Commission’s Working Group on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs, and young people. The Ombudsman Office was represented by Mr. Mugalib Mahmudov, Head of the Legal Education of the Institute.    

While speaking, Mr. Mahmudov expressed his concern over the increasing number of people, engaged in drug abuse in our country, which is a global threat to mankind and leads to serious violations of fundamental human rights of everyone is a cause for serious concern. Therefore, it is necessary to increase awareness of everyone, especially our future generation - young people to avoid using illicit drugs and addiction to psychotropic substances. Further, it was given broad information about the activity of the Ombudsman in human rights advocacy holding across the country, as well.    

In the end of the event, some groups of young people were awarded certificates of appreciation for their active participation in anti-drug activities and proper organization of leisure time for young people.
