Ombudsman gave a talk at the hybrid international event

The Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva spoke at the hybrid event “On the experience of national human rights mechanisms to protect the rights of women and ensure their security in the face of modern challenges and threats in Central Asia and Afghanistan” organized by the UNHCR Kazakhstan Representative.

S. Aliyeva, in her speech, said that armed conflicts seriously violate the norms of international humanitarian and human rights law, and pose a great threat to the lives and health of civilians. Azerbaijan has faced these criminal offenses for almost 30 years and the killing of numerous civilians, including women and children as a result of gross violations of human rights and freedoms laid down in the international legal acts.

Further, the guests were informed about the Ombudsman’s activity carried out since the beginning of the Second Karabakh War to investigate violations of human rights committed by Armenia, as well as the number of various types of documents addressed to the international community.

S. Aliyeva said that our country still suffers from the adverse effects of the conflict and Armenia did not share accurate minefield maps. The reconstruction and rehabilitation work that started immediately after the liberation of the territories were also discussed. It was also said that women are also supported to take full participation in these processes.

Also, the participants of the hybrid event were briefed about the Ombudsman’s activities in the protection of women’s rights, business, and human rights, ensuring access to information, and human rights advocacy.
