The Ombudsman Ms. Sabina Aliyeva attended the photo exhibition on the 20 June- World Refugee Day in the Photo Exhibition.
In her speech during the opening ceremony, the Ombudsman expressed serious concern about the rate of persons forcibly displaced from their homes placed worldwide due to various reasons has increased. Ms. Aliyeva, stating that in the present year the number of such persons exceeds 100 million, also underlined the significance of the world community, including international organizations to demonstrate further commitment to choose the sustainable way of solutions and provide forcibly displaced persons all necessary support to prevent similar processes.
The Ombudsperson, noting that the calls annually made during the World Refugee Day are aimed at global attention to such category of population groups and ensuring their human rights and recalled the call for 2022, touched on the importance of ensuring the right of refugees and internally displaced persons in the safety.
Ms. Aliyeva noted that as a result of the end of Armenia's occupation policy, which lasted for almost 30 years, up to one million former Azerbaijani IDPs have an opportunity to return to their native lands. Furthermore, the Ombudsman called for joint efforts to ensure the safe return of these people, recalling the mass destruction, serious damage to the ecosystem, and demining process, which delayed the return process to our liberated territories.
At the end of her speech, the Ombudsman called on everyone to unite with refugees and IDPs.
Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Azerbaijan Mr. Guido Ambroso, Chief of the State Migration Service Mr. Vusal Huseynov, and Deputy Chairman of the State Commission on Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Mr. Fuad Huseynov also spoke at the event about the importance of this significant day.
Afterward, the photos of Mr. Ahmad Javid Akbarzadeh, a refugee photographer from Afghanistan, were viewed, and videos prepared by the UNHCR were shown.
