Ombudsman met with the Director of the Board of the Council of Mediation of Azerbaijan

Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva met with Mr. Nadir Adilov, the Director of the Board of the Council of Mediation of Azerbaijan, and his delegation.  

Greeting the guests, the Ombudsperson S. Aliyeva noted the importance of the mediation process, especially in the businesses. She said the mediation process would facilitate the effective protection of the rights of individuals through resolving the disputes voluntarily participating in the mediation process without going to court.

The Ombudsman stressed the significance of the cooperation with the Council of Mediation, saying the aforesaid issues are also of importance to the ombuds institution of Azerbaijan, as well. Furthermore, speaking about the cooperation to jointly investigate the applications dealing with the mediation process, the Ombudsman said that the identification of the existing shortcomings and problems in this field and their monitoring would be critical in terms of the improvement of the field, in question.    

As well, the sides have discussed the issues related to holding joint awareness-raising events in Baku and regions, founding normative-functional deficiencies in the applications involving mediation issues received by the Ombudsman and their elimination in a prompt manner, and arranging meetings and discussions with the competent authorities in order to strengthen the cooperation between the two institutions, organize the coordination of the work and determine contact persons in both institutions and finally, to increase the awareness of the mediators about the requirements of the legislation.   

During the meeting, the Ombudsman made recommendations for conducting monitoring of the activity of the mediators within the control function of the Mediation Council, eliminating difficulties faced by the mediators during their activities and shortcomings existing in the normative and legal acts, consulting on proposals on the improvement of the national legal framework, and cooperating to make requests the relevant bodies in this regard.

Besides, Mr. Adilov also gave detailed information about the activity of the Mediation Council from the very beginning.
