Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva had another meeting with the winner of the “Rise” Competition (Mentoring Program).
During the meeting, it was spoken about the fact-finding missions carried out by the Ombudsman to inform the international community about the war crimes and crimes against peace and humanity committed by Armenia during the Second Karabakh War, as well as public appeals, she made concerning the mina problem.
Later, outlining her activity in the field of protection of the rights of prisoners, the Ombudsman gave detailed information about the review process of the prisoners’ and their families’ appeals for pardoning, motions given to the Pardon Issues Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the participation in the Commission’s work. It was noted that during the Ombudsman’s term of office, according to the motions, in general, 774 prisoners, but in 2021, 72 convicts were pardoned.
During the meeting, S. Aliyeva was curious about the Project on the rights of persons with disabilities in which a mentee has been involved. She also made her recommendations on how to implement the Project.
In conclusion, Ombudsman presented the mentee Mission reports, as well as other reports on various human rights violations in Azerbaijani and English languages.
This must be noted according to the agreed 4-month action plan within the mentorship program, numerous meetings were held with the chiefs of the relevant structural units of the Institution. Moreover, L. Gafarzade participated in the visit conducted by the Ombudsman’s NPM to the Republican Special Boarding School No. 5. She had talks with children of different age groups and learned the situation of ensuring the right of children to education.
