Ombudsman spoke at the OIC Ombudsmen Association Meeting held in Morocco

On the second day of the meeting of the OIC Ombudsmen Association held in Morocco, which is also attended by Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the members of the Board of Directors broadly discussed the activity directions.     

Taking the floor first, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan reported on the multi-faceted activity of the Institution, including the developments achieved within the last two years. Ms. Sabina Aliyeva noting that the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan will mark its 20th anniversary also spoke about the measures taken to ensure the protection of human rights as an independent monitoring mechanism.    

Furthermore, Ombudsman spoke about the international cooperation of the Ombudsman Institution with various state bodies, as well as the works and recommendations for the elimination of challenges. She underlined that in her last Annual Report, the Ombudsman made over 70 recommendations about the protection of the rights of various population groups.    

During her speech, the Ombudsman also said that numerous reports on human rights violations committed by Armenia were prepared, and relevant public calls were made. It was underlined that the fact of Armenia’s failure to provide the whereabouts of our compatriots missing since the First Karabakh War was brought to the attention of the world community.

Later Pakistani, Moroccan and Turkish ombudsmen reported about their activities as well.

After the meeting, the participants had an acquaintance with the Ombudsman Institution of the Kingdom of Morocco. The Azerbaijani and Moroccan ombudsmen discussed the prospects of future cooperation.
