Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan is on an official visit to Rabat, the Kingdom of Morocco. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the next meeting of the Board of Directors of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation Ombudsmen Association (OIC OA).
The activities of the Association and priority issues such as strengthening the role of the ombudsman institutions were discussed on the first day of the hybrid meeting.
The Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan, Ms. Aliyeva delivered a speech, broadly reporting about the effects of armed conflicts on human rights and freedoms, violations of the norms and principles of international law as a result of Armenia’s long-lasted aggression against our country, as well as about the outcomes of the fact-finding missions carried out by the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson during the armed conflict and aftermath.
Later, Ms. Aliyeva brought to the attention of the participants the independent investigations conducted by the Delegation headed by the President of the Association in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan last year, as a consequence of which numerous facts of humanitarian law violations were found.
During the speech, she underlined the importance of the continuation of the training organized by the Association to ensure the professional capacities of OIC Member States’ Ombudsmen institutions.
In conclusion, several recommendations have been sounded and discussions were made about the improvement of the Ombudsmen Association’s activity.
In the course of the visit, some other meetings of the Ombudsman with the Moroccan state officials will be arranged as well.
