Ombudsman met with Secretary-General of TURKPA

Ombudsman Ms.Sabina Aliyeva received the Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA) Mr. Mehmet Süreyya Er.

During the meeting, both institutions discussed strengthening the cooperation, including the perspectives of the interaction among Ombuds institutions of the Turkic states. The parties stressed the importance of  cooperation among ombuds institutions. 

It was also said that it is necessary to consider the needs and interests of vulnerable groups in drafting laws, prepared by parliaments and cooperation between the latter and ombuds institutions in this area.  

S.Aliyeva informed the guests about the international collaboration of the Azerbaijan Ombudsman Institution with international organizations. Azerbaijani Ombudsman said that she is a member of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, vice-president of the Asian Ombudsmen Association, and a member of the Board of Directors of the OIC Ombudsmen Association. She also said that Azerbaijani Ombudsman suggested establishing the Ombudsmen Association of Turkic Speaking Countries and informed on the activities implemented in this regard.   

Ombudsman stressed the significance of moral support of the Turkic world during the patriotic war, which resulted in the liberation of the territories of Azerbaijan.  

The parties also exchanged views on the organization of joint conferences and events on the protection of human rights in TURKPA member states.
