Awareness-raising events on the topic “Ensuring the right to information in the context of human rights” were carried out in Shemkir and Tovuz districts

Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan carried out awareness-raising events on the protection of the right to information in Shemkir District Heydar Aliyev Center and Tovuz District House of Culture named after Nizami Ganjavi.  

The events were attended by local government agencies, L. Zeynalova, Head of the Department on Protection of the Right to Information, S. Abbasov,  Head of the Ombudsman’s Ganja Regional Center, and representatives of local executive authorities.

During the meetings, the participants were informed about the activities of the Ombudsman in the field of control over the execution of the national Law on Access to Information by information holding state agencies, self-governing bodies, and officials, promoting the right to access to information, reviewing and responding procedures of the applications on the violation of this right, monitoring and analyses carried out in the concerned area.    

Then, the participants have been demonstrated a presentation about the freedom of information, obligations of information holders, and the rights of information requesters, and other issues reflected in relevant law were brought to the attention of the audience as well.  

In conclusion, booklets on “Let’s know our right to information” and “Let’s ensure the right to information” produced by the Ombudsman Institution were disseminated among the participants.
