Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, held talks with the Speakers of the House of Representatives and House of Councilors during her visit.
The first meeting was held with Mr. Naam Miyara, the Speaker of Councilors. At the meeting, the Speaker broadly spoke about the development history of the Chamber, and the cooperation with the local Ombudsman institute and other institutions in Morocco working in the field of the protection of human rights.
Thanking the Speaker for the reception, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman also spoke about the human rights reforms implemented in Azerbaijan, her mandate as an Ombudsman, and recommendations proposed through Annual Reports.
Ombudsman Ms. Aliyeva outlining the military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, and its war crimes, underlined the fact of failure of Armenia to share the whereabouts of our compatriots, who went missing during the armed conflict, stressing the importance of condemning these approaches, which are in conflict with international law norms.
She also noted that her visit laid the foundation for the development of the cooperation with the Moroccan Ombudsman, both bilaterally and within the organization of which both of them are members.
The next meeting was held with Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami, the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Speaker of the lower house stated his satisfaction with the cooperation between the two countries and spoke about the work of his Chamber and the measures undertaken.
Later, during her speech, Ms. Aliyeva gave broad information about the work of the Azerbaijan Ombudsman institution. She underlined that historical justice was restored as a result of the victory in the Second Karabakh War, and our occupied territories were freed from the Armenian occupation, which lasted almost 30 years.
It was mentioned that the mine problem still exists in the liberated areas, the houses were completely destroyed, and ecocide was committed, which is one of the serious impediments to the return of about one million IDPs to their homes.
The Ombudsman presented hard copies of her statements and reports providing serious human rights violations by Armenia during the armed conflict, civilian casualties, and landmine problems in the liberated areas to both Speakers.
In conclusion, the possibilities of bilateral cooperation were discussed, and the significance of the talks was highlighted.
