The Guba, Sheki, Jalilabad, and Ganja Regional Centers of the Ombudsman held a commemoration of the anniversary of the massacred committed in Khojaly 30 years ago.
Ganja Regional Center held commemoration events dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy in Ganja, Samukh, Yevlakh, and Gazakh districts together with the representatives of various stakeholders. During his speeches, the Head of the Ganja Regional Center Mr. Sabuhi Abbasov noted that this terrible crime had resulted in grave breaches of international human rights treaties. Furthermore, underlining that these crimes committed during the armed conflict started due to the Armenian aggression, the crimes shall be classified as war crimes in accordance with the international humanitarian law.
Jalilabad Regional Center jointly with the Lankaran branch of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations and the Lankaran Vocational High School organized events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. The event was attended by representatives of the organizing bodies, as well as teachers and students of the lyceum.
During the event, it was spoken about the genocide committed against the civilian population in Khojaly in 1992, emphasizing that it was a criminal act against humanity. In the end, a short documentary film dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was featured.
The Guba Regional Center of the Ombudsman together with various government agencies held a series of events dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy in Guba, Khachmaz, and Gusar districts. The event was attended by active youth, religious figures, representatives of local government agencies, and public figures.
During the event, the text of the Ombudsman's statement on the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was brought to the attention of the participants. In addition, the Head of the Regional Center Mr. Bahruz Efendiyev took part in a blood donation campaign in Guba.
The Sheki Regional Center held events with the participation of teachers, pupils, and students at secondary schools No. 10 and 12 and the Sheki Medical College, as well as at the Technical-Humanitarian Lyceum named after Ruslan Muradov in Mingachevir.
Speaking at the event, Parviz Mammadov, Head of the Sheki Regional Center, said that the crimes committed in Khojaly were genocide in accordance with international and domestic law. It was said that the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly” played a special role in enlightening of the world community. It was noted that the Khojaly massacre was considered genocide by the parliaments of a number of countries, 24 US states strongly condemned the tragedy, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation recognized the Khojaly genocide.
During their speeches, the representatives of the Regional Centers informed the participants about the Ombudsman's traditional statement to the world community in connection with the Khojaly genocide, including the 30th anniversary of the genocide.
