The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, the Republican Children's Library named after F. Kocharli under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, National-Heritage Cultural-Historical Research Foundation (NHCRF), as well as “Silent Communication” Sign Language Development Organization have launched a socially oriented project.
On December 10, 2021, the project partners organized a presentation of an e-book, which was translated into sign language based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and dedicated to the December 10 - Human Rights Day under the motto "We are strong and happy with our rights".
The Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva and staff members of the Ombudsman Institution, representatives of the Republican Children's Library named after F. Kocharli, NHCRF, as well as "Silent Communication" Sign Language Development Support Organization, members of the Parliament, government agencies, employees, persons with disabilities, specialists, students, and teachers participated at the presentation.
Opening the event, Ombudsman greeted the guests and congratulated them on this remarkable day.
Highly appreciating this social project, Ms. S. Aliyeva stressed that one of the requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was also ratified by our country is to recognize and use sign language, Braille, and all other methods of communication in all official relations.
The Ombudsman also said that on the eve of such a significant date, the implementation of such an important social project is very important and will greatly contribute to the development of sign language at the national level. During the speech, it was noted that the theme of 2021 international Human Rights Day is - Equality. Thus, the public call of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on December 10, " All human, all equal", calls for a concerted effort to protect the rights and freedoms of every human being.
Ombudsman called on everyone to cooperate in the protection and promotion of the rights and freedoms of all people, irrespective of their social status, based on non-discrimination, equality, and inclusivity principles.
Other speakers also shared their views on the topic and stressed the importance of this social project. They commended the Ombudsman's initiative, noting that such joint cooperation would make an important contribution to ensuring the rights of children with disabilities.
During the event, cultural scenes related to child rights were demonstrated.
At the end of the event, children were presented gifts.
