The Office of the Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan organized an event on the occasion of the universal Human Rights Day-10 December. During the event the winners of the annually organized “Rights for all!” journalist writings, and child drawings competition titled “Me and My Rights!” were awarded.
During her opening speech, the Ombudsman congratulated all attendees on the Human Rights Day, outlining the purpose and subject of both competitions, which were dedicated to the actual topic- human rights in the post-conflict context. The Ombudsman thanked the winning journalists and children and wished them success with their future endeavors.
Later, the participants were informed about the brief summaries of all journalists’ writings. It should be noted that the first place winner was Amin Nezerli from Qafqazinfo CSC, the second-place winners were Hafize Aliyeva from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Radio Programs CSC, and Mehbara Aliyeva, representative of the daily newspaper “Respublika (Republic)”, the third-place winner were Sabuhi Mammadli from Lent. az, Asmar Gabil from APA Information Agency and Samed Janbakhshiyev, lecturer at the Nakhchivan State University. Ilaha Allahverdiyeva was awarded a Diploma of successful participation. The Ombudsman presented all diplomas and awards to the winners.
Afterward, the Ombudsman commended the children and their parents for their great interest in this important topic, presenting diplomas and awards to the winning children. Jury members, Salhab Mammadov and Arif Huseynov, National Artists of Azerbaijan noted that paintings, submitted for the competition, meant that children are aware of their rights, and therefore, reflect the scenes that affected them during the war and post-war periods.
According to the results of the drawing competition, the winners of First place were Fatima Guliyeva, the Second Place winners were Gulara Salmanova and Rahila Maharramova, the Third place Ozlem Jafarzade, Samaye Huseynzade and Ruhin Khasmammadov, whereas 11 participants were awarded certificates of successful participation.
It must be noted that this year, in total, more than 260 works from 236 participants from Baku and the regions were submitted for the competition.
