Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva met with the winner of the “Yüksəliş” (Rise) Competition

The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva met with the winner of the “Yüksəliş” (Rise) Competition, Ms. Leman Gafarzadeh.

During the meeting, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, first of all, congratulated Ms. Gafarzadeh and informed her about the activities of the Ombudsman Office and Regional Centers, as well as the work done during the 44-day Patriotic War and aftermath.

Afterward, the Ombudsman briefed about the recent developments in the structural transformations in the Institution and underlined the establishment of the Department for the Protection of the Right to Information in order to further improve the implementation of powers and general activities in the relevant field.

It was noted at the meeting that the State is interested in the formation of young people as professionals, and the successful policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev is aimed at developing human capital, involving young people to run official positions in government, and acquisition of knowledge and skills.

In addition, the Ombudsman spoke about the educational events for young people, people involved in specialization, judges, lawyers, civil servants, law enforcement officers, and the military. It was noted that effective internship and research at the Ombudsman Office are annually undergone by students and masters of various higher education institutions, as well as the process of training highly qualified personnel in human rights is supported.

During the meeting, the Commissioner also gave detailed information about the visits carried out within the national preventive mechanism (NPM) mandate. She said that the outcomes of the visits are regularly analyzed, and if necessary, appeals and suggestions are sent to the relevant government agencies with proposals to improve the work of relevant stakeholders. During the monitoring visits, the Ombudsman spoke about the results achieved in ensuring the rights of socially vulnerable groups, including children, women, people with disabilities (PWDs), and the elderly.

The Ombudsman recommended that Ms. Gafarzadeh be involved in practical work on citizens' appeals, and gave her instructions on how to prepare a project on the rights of children and PWDs.

Noting that Ms. Aliyeva has rich scientific-pedagogical local and international practical experience in the field of human rights, especially the PWDs’ rights, Ms. Gafarzadeh expressed her wish to acquire new knowledge and skills in the concerned fields.
