As it is known, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan supervises the fulfillment of the duties of information holding state and local self-government bodies and officials stemming from the national Law “On Access to Information”.
Last year, a special Department for the Protection of the Right to Information was established in the Ombudsman Office in order to carry out activities in the concerned area more effectively. To effectively ensure the right of citizens to information and prevent violations of the law in this area, increase theoretical knowledge and awareness of the relevant law, the Department prepared information booklets for both, citizens titled "Know our right to information" and information holders titled "Let's ensure the right to access to information".
The information booklets contain information on the right to information, provisions of the relevant national Law, responsibilities of information holders (owners), request for information, its execution period and reasons for refusal, features of consideration of complaints on violation of this right and authority to compile relevant protocols.
