Staff of the Ombudsman Office participated in the ENOC 25th Annual Conference and General Assembly Meeting

Ms. Nigar Agayeva, Head of the Child Rights Protection Unit at the Office Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Ms. Ayten Tarverdiyeva, Head of the Unit on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, participated in the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) 25th Annual Conference and General Assembly in an online format.

Representatives of children's rights ombudsman institutions and NHRIs from various ENOC member States and children's rights officials from UN, European Commission, European Parliament, Council of Europe, and other international institutions, experts, and children attended the event.

At the event, representatives of Member States shared the latest developments in the field of child rights and exchanged their views and experiences.

In her turn, Ms. N.Agayeva informed the participants about the establishment of the relevant Unit at the Ombudsman Office, the work done to ensure child rights during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Second Karabakh War.

During the event, it was also underlined the Ombudsman's report on child casualties that occurred as a result of Armenia’s attacks on civilian settlements in Azerbaijan during the war, fact-finding missions conducted in the conflict-affected areas, as well as relevant statements, public appeals, and calls to international organizations and relevant agencies.

Furthermore, it was noted that the Ombudsman initiated a campaign for psychological assistance for families and children affected by the war.

In the end, ENOC Bureau members were elected and perspectives for the future activities were determined.
