The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) Office in Azerbaijan launched the training on the topic “Role of the Ombudsman in Promotion of Good Governance and Strengthening the Cooperation with Civil Society Organizations in the Concerned Area” within the “Regional Program on Good Governance for Local Development in the South Caucasus” in Guba for the representatives of the staff of state bodies and civil society members.
Mr. Zaur Valimammadli, Head of the Department for Cooperation with International Organizations and Civil Society Institutions at the Ombudsman Office, Mr. Rashad Novruzov, Head of the Civil and Political Rights Protection Unit, and Ms. Aynur Hamidova, Head of the Access to Information Unit, acted as trainers at the trainings.
In his opening speech, Mr. Z.Valimammadli greeted the participants on behalf of the Ombudsman, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, and wished them success. It was said that the effective participation of CSOs in decision-making processes is an important factor in the implementation of good governance.
The training, which was attended by local government agencies and CSOs, covered the topics on good governance and related international standards, mediation, the process of handling of complaints and appeals by the Ombudsman, business and human rights, and the right to information.
During the training, taking into account the requirements of modern times, it was highlighted the importance of establishing effective relations between government agencies and CSOs in terms of providing citizens with quality services. Furthermore, the role of the Ombudsman in this process was also discussed.
At the end of the training, which continued with interesting discussions, the participants were awarded certificates.
