Ombudsman received the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Bar Association

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva received Mr. Anar Bagirov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, and its members.

Welcoming the guests, the Ombudsman gave detailed information about her mandate and activities. Ms. Aliyeva brought to the attention of guests that her Office continued its work without any interruption during the pandemic and martial law, also informed about the work done to ensure the rights of the population, especially vulnerable groups, successful cooperation with lawyers in this field, support for the activities of lawyers, proposals made to the relevant authorities.

Expressing thankfulness for the warm reception, Mr. Bagirov briefed the activity in the field of advocacy. He stressed that given the growing interest in advocacy in the country, transparent exams to Bar, the number of advocates exceeded two thousand, while the number of 39 operating law firms exceeded 100. Furthermore, it was added that legal reforms and the work done by the Bar Association have contributed to a new stage of development of the advocacy institute.

At the meeting, it was said the Bar Association in cooperation with the Legal Aid and Training Center established by the Association in recent years, provided professional legal assistance to citizens organized joint training programs to further increase the professionalism of lawyers, and also emphasized the importance of effective cooperation between the Ombudsman Institution and the Association in this regard.

In the end, the parties exchanged views on future areas of mutual cooperation.
