The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva appealed to the Public Defender of Georgia, Ms. Nino Lomjaria in connection with the mass brawl that erupted in front of the shop belonging to an Azerbaijani businessman in Dmanisi district of Georgia, against the latter and other Azerbaijani youth.
In the letter of appeal, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman expressed her regret and concern about attempts to turn this incident into a conflict between ethnic groups. The Ombudsman expressed her confidence that the relevant authorities will take necessary measures to investigate the issue, highlighting also that Azerbaijan and Georgia are strategic partners.
Azerbaijani Ombudsman called her Georgian colleague to take this issue under her strict control to prevent any possible escalation of the situation.
