The Human Rights Month-long campaign running between 18 May- 18 June of each year on the initiative of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan has come to an end. Throughout the campaign, a range of legal awareness-raising events was organized by the Ganja, Jalilabad, Sheki, and Guba Regional Centers of the Ombudsman. Those events were held with the participation of various stakeholders, CSOs, and young people in the districts.
The events launched by Ganja Regional Center of the Ombudsman focused on prevention and combating domestic violence (DV), legal and ethical aspects of combating DV, combating gender-based violence, disability, harmful customs, right to information, and drug addiction.
Jalilabad Regional Center of the Ombudsman hosted online events on various topics of human rights, including the effective fight against DV and early marriages, awareness of youth about human rights and gender equality, and preventing anti-social behavior, as well as a scientific-practical conference. The publications of the Ombudsman Institution were also exhibited at the Final event held on June 18 at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Jalilabad district.
The Ombudsman’s Sheki Regional Center held videoconferences entitled "Ensuring human rights and freedoms is the ultimate goal of our State," as well as organized events in child-care institutions on the eve of the International Day for Protection of Children.
Guba Regional Center of the Ombudsman launched video conferences entitled "Ideas of humanism in the works of a poet Nizami Ganjavi", "Violence against children within the family and how to combat its” and others. The regional center has also organized an event at a boarding school for children deprived of parental care.
The aforementioned events were mainly focused on ensuring human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan and the existing difficulties in this area were discussed. During the events launched to increase awareness about human rights among the vulnerable groups of the population, the participants were informed about the relevant international documents and national legislation, as well as the competencies and activities of the Ombudsman to restore the violated human rights and freedoms.
Furthermore, the heads of the Regional Centers took part in legal awareness-raising events organized in Jalilabad, Guba, Sheki, and Ganja cities in connection with the activities of the Ombudsman to ensure the right to information.
