Ombudsman Office has organized an online event dedicated to the 98th anniversary of National leader Heydar Aliyev

The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan held an online event dedicated to the 98th anniversary of National leader Heydar Aliyev.

In her introductory speech, the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva spoke about the work done by Heydar Aliyev in the interests of our country as an Azerbaijani working in high positions during the USSR. Ms.Sabina Aliyeva also noted preventing the divisive tendencies put forward by various groups after the return of the National leader to power during independence and stressed its importance for the history of Azerbaijan. She noted that Heydar Aliyev was always sensitive to the problems of more than one million refugees and IDPs emerged as a result of the Armenian aggression against our country and spoke about Heydar Aliyev's contribution to the international recognition of the violation of the territorial integrity of our country, the adoption of four well-known UN resolutions condemning the occupation.

The Ombudsman highlighted the special role of the Great Leader in the formation and improvement of the legislative system in the field of ensuring human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan, as well as in the establishment of the Ombudsman institution.

The Ombudsman said that in the first years of independence, the adoption of the Constitution, as well as legislative framework in various fields was of exceptional importance. Ms. Aliyeva also spoke about the National leader's youth policy, noting that the issue of training qualified young people was in focus.

Then the event continued with speeches by the staff of the Office. The head of the Ombudsman Office Mr. Aydin Safikhanli said that Heydar Aliyev played a special role in the development of independent Azerbaijan and legal reforms in the country and stressed that adoption of the State Program on the Protection of Human Rights by the Great Leader and the abolition of the death penalty are of special importance.

Mr. Mehman Amiraliyev, the Head of the Human Rights Protection Department, spoke about the impact of Heydar Aliyev's purposeful policy on ensuring legal and economic development in the country.

Mr. Elvin Hajiyev, the leading advisor of the Right to Information Sector, noted that the Great leader stated the care of refugees and internally displaced persons as the main problem of the country. He said the victory in the Patriotic War was the result of continuing the successful policy of Heydar Aliyev.

Mr. Mikayil Bayramov, the senior advisor of the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Protection Sector, spoke about the importance of strengthening the country economically, implementing oil and gas projects, as well as signing the Contract of the Century.

In conclusion, the Ombudsman stressed the importance of learning our history and Heydar Aliyev's heritage in order to revive his statehood ideas.
