The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva met with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ms. Feruza Eshmatova.
During the meeting, the Ombudsmen of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan spoke about the friendly and fraternal relations between the two countries and noted the existence of continuous cooperation between the ombudsman institutions.
The Azerbaijani Ombudsman provided detailed information on her mandate and activities. Furthermore, the Ombudsman spoke about the fact-finding missions and relevant reports on human rights violations, including indiscriminate attacks on the residential areas, committed by the Armenian military during the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
It was noted that landmines, planted in the liberated territories by Armenia during the occupation, pose serious impediments to the restoration of normal life there, threatening peace and stability in the region. Ms. Sabina Aliyeva also informed her colleague that as a result of mine blasts occurred in the liberated areas even after the cessation of hostilities resulted in many deaths or injuries among civilians and servicemen.
In turn, Mr. Feruza Eshmatova exchanged information about the activities of the Ombudsman Office of Uzbekistan and underlined her readiness to expand fruitful cooperation between the two institutions.
The Parties agreed to sign a new bilateral Memorandum between the two institutions.
