During the Human Rights Month-long campaign, the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan organized legal awareness-raising events on the protection of the right to information in the Heydar Aliyev Centers in Sheki and Ganja cities.
The events had brought together the representatives of local executive authorities, police bodies, educational and information holding state agencies of Sheki and Ganja.
Perviz Mammadov, the Head of Sheki Regional Center, and Sabuhi Abbasov, the Head of Ganja Regional Center of Ombudsman, and Lamiya Zeynalova, the Head of the Unit on the Protection of the Right to Information at the Ombudsman Office and other staff members delivered speeches at the events.
Participants were informed about the activities of the Ombudsman to monitor the implementation of the duties of information holding state bodies, local self-government bodies, and officials, arising from the Law of Azerbaijan "On Access to Information".
The speakers provided detailed information on the historical establishment of the right to information, existing relevant international treaties, the rights of information owners and applicants, and other norms as provided by the relevant legislation.
In the end, the presentation on the right to information was demonstrated.
