The delegation headed by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva participated in the 4th Meeting of the Heads of Anti-Corruption Organizations and Ombudsmen of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Member States in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
During the event, attended by representatives of Uzbekistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan, the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva gave detailed information about the activities of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman in the fight against corruption.
During the speech, it was said that the Ombudsman made proposals to improve the legislation, and her Office was closely involved in the preparation and implementation of strategic documents on strengthening anti-corruption measures in the country in order to increase the effectiveness of measures taken in the concerned area.
It was also noted that the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan closely cooperates with state agencies, civil society organizations and specialized international organizations, including the anti-corruption body of the CoE Group of States against Corruption (GRECO).
Furthermore, the Ombudsman called on the relevant international human rights organizations to put pressure on Armenia, emphasizing that Armenia's refusal to provide maps of unmarked mines in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan is a serious obstacle to peace and security in the region.
