The Ombudsman spoke at the online conference on "Ensuring the Public Control and Future Tasks"

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva participated in an online conference “Ensuring the Public Control and Future Tasks” initiated by Public Control Center of National NGO Forum. 

At her speech, the Ombudsman said that the existence of a control mechanism was one of the main prerequisites for effective public administration. The State is interested in the strengthening of public control over central and local executive authorities and municipalities.  The Ombudsman also noted that in recent years, the reforms had significant impacts on the expansion of public control. She reminded that the Government underlines the role of the public in the disclosure of shortcomings and that officials have responsibilities to serve the citizens in good faith. 

Ms.Sabina Aliyeva said that public and political institutions, NGOs, and mass media outlets shall take a significant role in the implementation of public control.

In conclusion, the Commissioner expressed her views on holding public discussions with the participation of influential intellectuals, public and political figures, and citizens who take an active part in public life. She has also noted her readiness to provide possible support in this direction within her mandate as the Ombudsman.

The conference continued with interactive discussions of state authorities and civil society organizations.
