The Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva conducted her next visit

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms.Sabina Aliyeva conducted the next visit without prior notice to the Temporary detention place and investigation isolator of the State Security Service within her National Preventive Mechanism mandate against torture.

The objective of the visit carried out in line with the OPCAT and the Constitutional Law on the  Ombudsman, was to monitor the detention condition and treatment, to investigate the received complaints, to ensure the rights of detained persons, and to check the documentation.

During the visit conducted with the participation of other NPM members, detention condition, nutrition, access to nutrition, organization of medical care service and some other requests have been investigated, the units of the facility, including cells, were monitored.

The Ombudsman received some accused persons in private to investigate the treatment issues, their appeals were heard, and each of them was given appropriate legal advice related to their concerns, and explained the relevant legislation. The number of appeals has been ensured on the spot.
During the private talk, the interviewees did not complain about the treatment of facility employees and detention conditions.

In the end, there was held legal awareness talk to the facility administration and staff, who were given appropriate recommendations in compliance with the national and international legislative framework.
