Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva met with the President of the Constitutional Court of Turkey

During the ongoing official visit of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva to the Republic of Turkey, she held a meeting with Mr. Zühtü Arslan, the President of the Constitutional Court of Turkey.  

Azerbaijani Ombudsman gave detailed information about her competencies, granted her under Article 13.2.8 (the right to appeal to the Constitutional Court) of the Constitutional Law of Azerbaijan On the Ombudsman. During the term of office, the Ombudsman has sent requests to the Constitutional Court in relation to various normative and legal norms.   

Later, she spoke about the reception and review processes of incoming applications and underlined that last year, her Office received 27 500 applications. Further, there was given broad information about the activity of four Regional Centers of the Ombudsman.    

Besides, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman drew attention to the concerns about the fact of non disclosure of minefield maps by Armenia, which currently creates a serious danger to Azerbaijan.

In his turn, Mr. Arslan congratulated the brotherly state Azerbaijan due to the victory in 44-day Karabakh war, also highlighting the highly developed cooperation in many areas of the life between two states, including the field of protection and promotion of human rights that takes an important place.  

Mr. Malkoç, the Turkish Chief Ombudsman, who was also participated in the meeting briefed the details of his last official visit to Azerbaijan, including meeting with the country President, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and a joint fact-finding mission conducted to Ganja city. At the end of the meeting, he presented to Mr. Arslan a mission report covering the outcomes, which was prepared in both Turkish and English languages. Apropos, Mr. Malkoç, noted that the Report was sent to 114 embassies and diplomatic missions in Turkey, as well as in general, 167 ombudsmen and NHRIs, international human rights institutions, and other organizations.   

Finally, the parties have discussed the cooperation-related issues and exchange of information in the next future and both parties expressed their interest in expansion of bilateral cooperation.
