NPM team of the Ombudsman conducted monitoring on the occasion of the June 1 - International Day for Protection of Children

According to the instructions of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms Sabina Aliyeva, the members of the National Preventive Group conducted visits to the Juvenile Correctional Facility of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice and Penitentiary Institution No. 4 for female convicts on the occasion of June 1 – International Day for Protection of Children.

The meeting was held with juveniles at the correctional facility, where they were congratulated on behalf of the Ombudsman on the occasion of International Day for Protection of Children. Furthermore, during confidential meetings with the juveniles, the conditions of detention and treatment in the facility were studied, and their appeals addressed to the Ombudsman were received.

Later, some parts in the correctional facility were monitored and recommendations were given to the employees of the facility on how the detention conditions could be improved.
In addition, the NPM team visited the Penitentiary Institution No. 4 for females convicts of the Penitentiary Service and monitored the living areas for convicts with infants to make sure that detention conditions and treatment met the relevant standards. The female convicts were informed about the NPM activities to protect the rights of prisoners under their mandate and were explained about their rights and the powers of the Ombudsman.

In the end, on the occasion of the International Day for Protection of Children, the mothers with infants were congratulated and presented gifts on behalf of the Ombudsman.
