Within the framework of international cooperation, the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan together with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OIC OA) has organized an online training seminar for the ombudsmen institutions of OIC member states. The training seminar was attended by representatives of the ombudsman institutions in Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Sudan, and other countries.
By the decision of the board of the OIC OA, of which the Azerbaijani Ombudsman is also a member, such seminars are organized to increase the exchange of the experience between ombudsman institutions.
Zaur Valimammadli, Head of the Department for Cooperation with International Organizations and Civil Society Institutions at the Ombudsman Office made a presentation as a trainer. The presentation covered the powers, NPM mandate of the Ombudsman, as well as the activities of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Institution in relation to the 44-day war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Factual materials and photos were used during the presentation.
The purpose of the seminar was to increase the knowledge and skills of employees in the field of effective protection of human rights, to strengthen the exchange of experience between colleagues.
The trainer spoke in detail about the reports prepared by the Ombudsman on the facts of human rights violations committed by Armenia against the civilian population of Azerbaijan during the war as part of fact-finding missions and sent to relevant international organizations. The seminar provided information on the meeting of Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva with our compatriots released from captivity and hostage-taking in Armenia and the activities carried out to protect their rights. It was noted that a special report prepared by the Ombudsman on the facts of torture of servicemen and civilians of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces held captive and hostage in Armenia has been sent to relevant international organizations as well.
Z.Valimammadli answered the questions of the participants on the activities of the Ombudsman within the mandate of the National Preventive Mechanism, as well as the restoration of human rights violated during and after the armed conflict.
