The representatives of the Ombudsman Office participated in an international conference in Kazakhstan

The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan organized an international conference on “The implementation of international norms on human rights in national legislation” in Astana city, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. 

The staff members of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Insaf Nasirov and Rashad Novruzov, as well as representatives from international organizations, numerous foreign ombudspersons, and national human rights institutions (NHRIs), took part in the conference. 

In his speech, I. Nasirov provided information about the activity of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms. Outlining the amendments made to the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, he said that these changes serve to align  the Institution’s activities with the Paris Principles.  

Afterwards, the issues of access to legal remedies in cases of human rights violations by business entities were touched upon, emphasizing the necessary measures taken by the Ombudsman since the beginning of the present year within the framework of the joint cooperation with the UN Country Office to ensure national implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the preparation of the relevant national action plan, as well as the assessment of the current situation in the country in this area by the Ombudsman Office.   

During the event, discussions around issues related to ensuring access to the administration of justice in order to effectively protect the human rights and freedoms, the role of NHRIs in  legislative improvement and strengthening its activities were held, and relevant good practices were shared.
