A staff member of the Ombudsman Office, Azada Novruzova took part in a commemorative event in honor of the tragedy of 20 January organized by the Azerkitab-Book Popularization Center. The families of martyrs, members of Parliament, young people, non-governmental organizations and the intellectuals have also attended the online event.
At the online event, opened by Sabir Hasanov, Project Manager of the Azerkitab-Book Popularization Center, a documentary film on the tragedy was shown. He spoke about the massacre committed by the Soviet army in the capital city and in the districts on January 20, 1990, and the loss of innocent lives.
Azada Novruzova, a representative of the Ombudsman Office spoke about the statement made by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev on behalf of the Azerbaijani people in Moscow, about the political assessment to be given the massacre and the necessity of the punishment of the perpetrators. She also spoke about the special session of the Parliament of Azerbaijan to give a political and legal assessment to this bloody event and the Presidential Decrees and Orders related to January 20 bloody events.
In her speech, Ms. Novruzova informed the participants about the statement of the Ombudsman addressed to the world community on the 31st anniversary of the tragedy. Furthermore, it was noted that the Ombudsman pays special attention to the martyrs' families, veterans, and repatriated servicemen, and holds regular meetings with them.
