A social video clip about ensuring the right to equality was produced within the scope of the Ombudsman’s activities

The right to equality and equality before the law are one of the universally recognized principles. The main purpose of the UDHR is to ensure everyone exercises their rights on an equal basis without discrimination.

Protection of legal equality and eliminating discrimination are integral parts of the state policy in Azerbaijan, and currently, there are national legal norms prohibiting discrimination, and ensuring and promoting legal equality.

The Azerbaijan Ombudsman, operating to safeguard the human rights and freedoms set forth in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and international treaties ratified by our State, has important competences in protecting and promoting the right to equality of individuals, along with their other rights.

Considering the importance of public awareness of equality and non-discrimination principles, a social video clip at the initiative of the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, was created.

The video provides that in our country, where values such as multiculturalism and ethnic diversity are always preserved, all individuals — including members of various vulnerable groups — enjoy equal rights and freedoms. It also stresses that discrimination against anyone based on legally protected grounds such as gender, race (skin color), criminal record, disability, age, religion, or other characteristics is unacceptable. Furthermore, it was also highlighted that, from the perspective of gender equality, men and women are entitled to equal rights and freedoms, and that individuals have general responsibilities within the family, particularly towards their children.
