The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva attended an online meeting of the Board of the Organization of Islamic (OIC) Cooperation Ombudsmen Association.
During his opening speech, the President of the Association and Chief Ombudsman of Turkey Mr. Şeref Malkoç spoke about the mutual cooperation of the member institutions in the protection and promotion of human rights. Underlining the significance of the training-seminars organized by the member institutions, Mr. Malkoç thanked his Azerbaijani colleague Ms. Aliyeva for the fruitful seminar organized by her Institution.
It should be noted that the Ombudsman Office has launched a special training-seminar on the prevention of torture and ill-treatment and on the activity of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman during the period of hostilities for the member NHRIs of the OIC countries, in February 2021. The meeting was attended by about 70 participants.
In her speech, the Ombudsman S. Aliyeva stressed the importance of online training seminars on various human rights issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, the exchange of knowledge and experience in this field, and that ombudsman institutions play a key role in protecting human rights during the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 infection and this challenging time in general. Therefore, she highlighted that it is necessary to strengthen interactions in the concerned area.
Other members of the Association also spoke at the event and expressed their views and suggestions on the issues raised.
