The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva and the Chief Ombudsman of the Republic of Turkey, ?eref Malkoç held a meeting via videoconferencing.
During the meeting, they discussed about the development of cooperation between Ombudsman institutions of the two brotherly countries and perspectives of future activities based on mutual exchange of experiences in accordance with the Treaty of Understanding signed between the parties.
At the same time, they noted that the global COVID-19 pandemic poses serious danger to human lives and health, thus the quarantine regime, which was enacted both in Azerbaijan and Turkey, plays a significant role in preventing the further spread of the virus.
The Commissioner mentioned that she had addressed an appeal and called on the nation to follow the rules set for protection from the negative outcome of the virus after the special quarantine regime was declared in Azerbaijan.
This should be noted that the Azerbaijani Ombudsman institution had significantly contributed to the process of setting up and maintaining effective work of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ombudsman Association, led by the Chief Ombudsman of Turkey. Taking this into account, they emphasized the importance of further enhancing the regional cooperation among ombudsman institutions with due support of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman after the end of the pandemic.
In the meeting, the parties also discussed the issue of arranging meeting of ombudsmen of Turkic-speaking countries in the post-pandemic period. It was added that strengthening the cooperation among those Ombudsman institutions in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms would also contribute to further development of economic, social and cultural relations.
