On February 26, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies jointly organized an event dedicated to the 28th anniversary of Khojaly Genocide.
The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the State Committee, Aynur Sofiyeva, Chief Advisor of the Scientific-Analytical Sector of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lamiya Zeynalova, Director of the Information and Communication Technologies Applying and Training Center of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies (ICT LAB), Rauf Jabbarov, Head of the International Department of the “Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan” Public Union, Aybaniz Ismayilova, Senior Advisor of the Organizational-Control and Analytical department of the State Committee of Republic of Azerbaijan for Refugees and IDPs, Aynura Aliyeva, and 50 students from different schools. At the same time, about 120 students were directly involved in the event through the centers of the ICT LAB in Baku, Ganja, Mingachevir and Lankaran cities, as well as in Zagatala, Shamakhi and Gabala regions.
During the event, the representative of the Ombudsman Office, L. Zeynalova mentioned that Khojaly tragedy was a crime against humanity and an act of genocide. Noting that human rights, most importantly, right to life has been vastly violated during this horrible tragedy, she stated that the Ombudsman Office has been organizing a series of events to commemorate the victims of the genocide and to convey particular facts and historical realities to the international community. She informed that, like previous years, the annual statement issued by the Ombudsman on Khojaly Genocide was addressed to influential international organizations, including the UN, European Union, Council of Europe, OSCE, as well as to the ombudsmen and embassies of various countries.
During the event, children sent the information about Khojaly Genocide to the international organizations, as well as to the friends living abroad through social networks. As a matter of issue, historical facts were once again brought to the attention of younger generation and the international community.
