Representative OF Ombudsman participated at awareness event on early marriages

Azerbaijani NGO have launched an event with support to raise awareness of the population.  It focuses to the problem of early marriages in the context of its sociological-financial solution. Relevant NGOs, media outlets and students and relevant public stakeholders, Ombudsman’s representative M. Mahmudov participated at this event.

The organizers have opened the purpose of the event giving broad information about historical background of early marriages in the world and Azerbaijan, its causes of emerging and so on.

The Ombudsman’s representative at his speech, told that within 18 May-18 June Human Rights Month-Long campaign she organizes awareness raising events on human rights promotion and protection, focusing on discussions also the problem of early marriages. Those events that focusing also on the issues of reproductive health, family planning and legal awareness of women have been launched throughout the country with participation of judicial authorities, municipalities, local communities, prosecutorial and law-enforcement bodies.

According to the “Azerbaijan 2010: Outlook into future” Development Concept and “State Program on Azerbaijani youth in 2017-2021 years”, “Program on elimination of social impediments causing trafficking in person” it was taken actions for developing monitoring system of dropouts and early marriages as well as taking preventive measures to eliminate violence, dropouts and early marriages and fostering family values in youth.

Azerbaijan Child and Youth Peace Network under the Ombudsman's Child Rights Resource Center annually organizes awareness raising events on topics on how to prevent early marriages, harmful practices, and stereotypes at the School of Leadership.
