The seminar has brought together the young people, paricipating in the volunteer program of the Ombudsman Institution, along with the participants of the research paper competition held in hakathon-format this year with the organization of the Ombudsman Office and the support by the UNDP.
In the opening ceremony, Zaur Valimammadli, head of the Department for Cooperation with International and Civil Society Organizations of the Ombudsman Institution, broadly spoke about the activities in the field of human rights education initiated by the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva. Focusing on the climate change problems, he emphasized the importance of further enhancing awareness-raising on environmental rights and participation of youngsters in this process. It was told about COP 29 to be hosted by our country this year, the various measures taken in this regard, as well as “the International Baku Forum of Ombudsmen,” organized by the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, and attended by over thirty countries’ ombuds, national human rights institutions, and international experts. The significance of such events in terms of interactively discussing the global climate change crisis and its solutions was also noted during the event.
The videos prepared by the participants as a team were demonstrated in the interactive seminar, whose aim was to draw attention of the young generation to the subject, in general, and its analysis in the contest of climate change and human rights.
The seminar continued its work with the speeches made by staff members of the Ombudsman Institution, Aydan Talibova and Shahla Aslanova, as trainers. Group discussions and role-playing games were organized based on the case studies dealing with the effects of climate change on various population groups.
