A meeting with Professor from Turkiye, Ilber Ortayli was held in the Ombudsman Office

A meeting with renowed professor from Turkiye, Ilber Ortayli was held in the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan. 

Greeting the participants at the meeting, Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman, expressed her satisfaction with holding such an event. The Ombudsman, underscoring the valuable inputs to the historical science made by Professor Ilber Ortayli and his international reputation, noted that his scholarly works are highly appreciated by the Turkic Peoples, including the readers from Azerbaijan. She wished him success in his endeavors.   

The Commissioner spoke about the liberation of our occupied territories as a result of victory gained during the Second Karabakh War. She said the Victory Day recently will be marked, adding that Azerbaijan has written a new history, which also resulted in the restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty. 

 The Ombudsman provided information about fact-finding missions carried out during the Second Karabakh War and postwar period, adding that the mission reports, as well as reports about human rights violations committed by Armenia during the occupation period and those related to hate crimes, have been sent to international organizations, ombuds institutions, and NHRIs of other countries.  

In his turn, Professor Ilber Ortayli thanked the Ombudsman for the warm reception. Going back to the history of the existing relations between two sister countries, the professor emphasized the importance of  Azerbaijan’s victory during the Second Karabakh War. 

During the meeting, Ilber Ortayli was awarded a jubilee medal, created honoring the 20th anniversary of the Ombudsman Institution (2002–2022) by the Human Rights Commissioner, Sabina Aliyeva.
