The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, had meeeting with the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
At the meeting, Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva told the guest that there is fruitful cooperation and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine in all areas of life.
The parties expressed their satisfaction with the mutual cooperation of the ombuds institutions of both countries in the protection of human rights and freedoms and emphasized the need to further develop this cooperation.
The parties also exchanged views on humanitarian issues in wartime and the work being done to protect the rights of the civilian population, including refugees and IDPs.
The Ombudsperson stated that Azerbaijan has suffered from war for many years, that the IDP and refugee problem has been relevant in our country for many years, that hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced from their ancestral homeland as a result of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan.
The Ombudsperson noted the end of the thirty-year occupation as a result of the Second Karabakh War, the liberation of our territories from occupation, and the restoration of the rights of our former IDP compatriots, and the implementation of their return process to their native lands.
Furthermore, the guest was informed about the Ombudsperson’s fact-finding missions carried out during the Second Karabakh War and the post-war period, as well as relevant reports.
In turn, the Parliament Ombudsman of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, expressed his gratitude to Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva for the sincere meeting and thanked the State of Azerbaijan for its humanitarian support to Ukraine and the attention and care shown to Ukrainian children.
The meeting also discussed the prospects for joint cooperation towards more effective protection of human rights and freedoms.
