As part of the independent monitoring mechanism, Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva visited Baku Special Boarding School No. 5 to evaluate the protection of children’s rights.
During the monitoring, the institution's management gave comprehensive information to the Ombudsperson about the school's activities and current state.
The Ombudsperson visited the school’s facilities, including the dining hall, medical unit, and classrooms, and sought information on children’s education, recreation, nutrition, and processes of maintaining documentation.
On November 8, Victory Day, the Ombudsperson attended the presentations prepared by the students of the institution. The Commissioner interacted with the students, engaged in an open discussion, listened to their thoughts, and enlighten them about their rights and responsibilities, as well as the procedures for submitting applications to the Ombudsperson.
At the Ombudsperson’s initiative, the school was provided Braille materials on children’s rights and a specialized guide, the “National Preventive Mechanism Against Torture,” all prepared for children with full visual impairment.
Following the monitoring, the Ombudsperson gave the management of the education facility pertinent recommendations to better protect children's rights while adhering to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
