The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva took part in the event "Women, peace and security after the Second Karabakh War."
Speaking at the event, the Ombudsman spoke about the role of women in society in independent Azerbaijan, equal rights with men in all areas, participation in public and political life, as well as the essence of gender policy in our country.
He also spoke about the activities of the Ombudsman's Office over the past 20 years, the protection of women's rights, the expansion of the position of women in government and public life, and the restoration of their violated rights.
It was noted that many civilians, including women, were killed when Armenia fired heavy artillery and missiles and banned weapons at various settlements in Azerbaijan at a time when the world was fighting the COVID-19 infection. It was noted that as a result of Armenia's military aggression, Azerbaijan's nature, biodiversity, flora and fauna, water resources, ecology of the occupied territories in general, and the region's ecosystem were seriously damaged.
During the speech, the Ombudsman addressed the world community, substantiated reports addressed to international organizations, extensive activities exposing war and terrorist crimes, as well as the implementation of fact-finding missions.
At the same time, Aliyeva touched upon the main task of the state - clearing the liberated areas of mines, restoring destroyed infrastructure, and historical monuments of the Azerbaijani people, and ensuring the safe return of former IDPs to their native lands.
The Ombudsman said that like every member of society, Azerbaijani women should be closely involved in the activities carried out in the post-conflict period, including the peace-building process.
