It is known that within the framework of the international cooperation of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman, several foreign delegations have already visited our country to conduct on-site investigations in the liberated territories and those that were subjected to attacks during the Patriotic War. In a number of government agencies, meetings with those delegations are organized in order to provide preliminary information before the fact-finding missions.
With this purpose, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, and Ms. Ana Jumaliyeva leading the Delegation from the Bulgarian Commission for Protection against Discrimination, who is on an official visit to our country at the initiative of the Ombudsman, had a meeting with the Chair of the Parliament, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova.
The Chair welcomed the guests before mentioning the development of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. In her speech, Ms.Gafarova spoke about human rights reforms implemented in Azerbaijan.
The Delegation members were informed about the serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law by Armenia committed during the Second Karabakh War as a result of the shelling of populated civilian areas with the use of prohibited weaponry. She also stressed the importance of the opportunity to get acquainted with these facts on the spot.
Ms. Jumaliyeva, the head of the Commission for Protection against Discrimination of Bulgaria, in her turn, thanked the Speaker for the warm reception. She expressed her confidence that the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Azerbaijani Ombudsman will play a significant role in the development of mutual relations.
